PhOEMina, is a festival, a collective, an initiative, which exists since 2018. Its first edition took place in Italy, in Acqui Terme, near Genoa. Since then two new editions have been held in Italy in 2019, at the Asilo in Naples and at the Santa Maria hall in Acqui Terme.
This festival tends to give visibility to women and minority artists in the field of experimental music and these various forms of expression. The aim of this project is to offer a safe space for expression and creation. As well as developing a network and connections between and for artists.
Deconstruct and raise awareness about the visibility of women and minority artists. The initiative of the festival is to raise awareness on current issues such as the visibility of women and minority artists in the field of music and more specifically in the field of experimental music and its variants. We present the artists and their backgrounds through interventions and videos so that the public can learn a little more about the artist, his project, his journey. We also call upon the services of interveners to address in a simple and concise manner the subjects to which we are sensitive.
Our initiative is to break down the prejudices surrounding experimental music and these different variants. Music accessible to all. Our wish is to make everyone discover this musical universe. No need to be an expert, just be curious, everyone is welcome.
Our wish is to make everyone discover this musical universe. No need to be an expert, just be curious, everyone is welcome.
Through interventions we wish to approach the history of these different movements and all the artists who have influenced this genre.
We are a non-profit organization (NPO). All our events are free (it is however possible to become a member in order to support the association) and focus on musical programming, performance presentation, etc.
We want to develop connections between artists, places, regions and countries. Being aware of the difficulty of performing, we are working on the development of a solidarity network to promote artists, places and exchanges in order to keep this musical movement alive.
Our collective aims to raise awareness on many aspects:
- The visibility of women and minority artists.
- To the respect of the artists' projects.
- To propose a safe space of expression.
- To inform as clearly as possible of the wishes and objectives of the collective.
Our will is above all to share with you our passion for experimental music.
